Kimono gowns are a must have in the early days. Those late night poops are made easy when your baby's bum is easily accessible under the gown (rather than undoing an entire onesie!). 100% cotton is the most natural fibre around, so we always go with that! Many babies experience irritation with non-cotton fabrics. My baby slept in only these for the first 2 months.
